Website Privacy Policy
We are serious about your privacy; this policy is fairly short & and hopefully clear as it tells 1] WHO collects data, 2] WHEN and WHAT data is collected, and 3] WHAT IS DONE with the data.
Section 1: Who collects information
- We operate as Bud's Bait & Retail, LLC, in the US state of Missouri, and online in the USA only as budsbait.com. We collect personal information as described below.
- We use PayPal as a credit/debit-card processor, and they collect personal information; we have attempted to provide an accurate description of what we think they do below. We have no control over this and cannot know exactly what they do; if privacy is a concern, you should read their privacy policy as well (and hope/pray for transparency).
- If you access our site through a search engine such as Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc. they may keep information about you, and we have no control over this. See that company's Privacy Policy for details.
Section 2: When we (and PayPal) collect information, and what information is collected (with guesses about PayPal)
Information is collected a] when you visit Budsbait.com, b] when you register as a member on the site, c] when you add products to the shopping cart, and d] when you checkout your order/cart.
A. When you visit Budsbait.com, our server records the time of your visit, your IP address, what page you requested, whether the request was successfully fulfilled, and your browser's User-Agent String. This is standard practice for the Apache webserver and most websites, and happens for each page you view on our website.
B. When you register as a member, we ask for your first name, your email address, and a password. You have the option to provide your last name, phone number, and address information (street address, city, state, ZIP code). We encrypt your password with a very random salt and industry-standard OpenSSL encryption; this is a very strong cryptographic scheme, but we still recommend that you create a unique password for our site and keep your passwords in a password manager like BitWarden, NordPass, or your browser's password manager.
C. When you add products to your shopping cart, our server records the product's item number and associated details, and either your email address (if you are logged in) or a random cookie value that identifies your browser.
D. When you check out in our shopping cart, which uses a PayPal plugin as described in Section One above, PayPal receives the information from its own form on this site, including your credit/debit card number, expiration date, and CSC/CVV code, your first and last names, street address, city, state and ZIP code, your phone number and email address. If your shipping address differs from your credit/debit card billing address, you may have to fill out another section of the form with most of the same details (except the card information).
Section 3: What we do with the information (and what we think PayPal does with it)
A. We use the information described in Section 2A to create reports about server traffic and to attempt evaluation of the effectiveness of our online business.
B. We use the password you create to log you into the site if you choose to do so. You can browse and shop our site without logging in. We may use the other information described in Section 2B to contact you; if this is for assistance in completing an order, we will do so promptly and politely, with discretion; if we do this for marketing purposes, we will provide information about how you can limit or decline further contact attempts from us.
C. The information described in Section 2C is collected of neccessity, in order that the site can continue to show you the correct cart items and details.
D. Using the information described in Section 2D, PayPal verifies your card details for us, and we record transaction details including the transaction ID, transaction amount in US dollars, your email address, name, street address, city, and state. We do NOT keep your phone number or any credit/debit card information; PayPal may do this, however, and we have no control over that policy (we know they keep the phone number and assume that they keep card details because we use PayPal to issue refunds directly to your bank or credit card company when necessary [e.g. item unavailable, etc.]).
